Planning Commission

There are five positions available on the Curry County Planning Commission. The Planning Commission makes decisions on subdivision applications and appeals of staff decisions on land use permits; however in the past 18 months there have been no applications for subdivisions and there have been no appeals of staff decisions on land use permits. The Planning Commission also works collaboratively with the Community Development Director to craft amendments to the County’s Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Code.  Planning Commission recommendations on these amendments are then forwarded to the Board of Commissioners (BOC) for consideration and action.    Planning Commission meetings are held the third Thursday evening of the month from 5:30 – 8 PM. There are some months when the Planning Commission meetings may be cancelled, usually for a summer break and around holiday time.  Currently the  2017 Planning Commission meeting schedule includes meetings on March 16, May 18, June 15,  August 17, September 21, October 16 and  November 16. From time to time a Planning Commission meeting will be cancelled due to inclement weather or lack of a quorum.

Planning Commissioners are provided with a Planning Commission packet electronically a week in advance of each Planning Commission meeting. Currently these packets include land use policy amendment language for evaluation. Commissioners are expected to have read the information and come prepared to review and work as a team with other Planning Commissioners on revisions or additions on a wide variety of land use policies.

Four Planning Commission positions are open, with a commitment of each position for four years:

-         Two positions for the south county

-         One position for the central county

-         One position for the north county

Three Planning Commission applications have been received to date, one application from a current Planning Commissioner representing the south county whose term is expiring on April 1,  one application from a current Planning Commissioner representing the central county whose term is expiring on April 1, and one application from an individual who seeks to represent the north county.  If you are interested in applying for a Planning Commissioner position, please submit an application to the Board of Commissioners office located at 94235 Moore Street or by mail or by e-mail to BOC_Office@co.curry.or.us or by FAX to (541) 247-2718.
